Summary
This course will introduce students to issues related to the online production, transmission and consumption of information from a cognitive science perspective. It will provide in particular an overview of results from the cognitive and social psychological literature on the psychology of Web user. It will cover different aspects of technology-mediated behaviour, including: information searching; online trust and reputation assessment; online collaboration and peer production; social networking and online identity formation; online communication and relevance. The course will illustrate psychological findings with a number of practical examples. It will discuss the implications of understanding Web-based user behaviour for the effective design and management of online communication systems.
